Tiny Art Show a Huge Success!

Our thanks to all the artists who participated in the library's Tiny Art Show. Thanks to you, the show was a huge success! But all good things must come to an end. It's time to collect the masterpieces you created that have been on display to the public. Come see us at the location where you participated and pick up your family's paintings from June 15 to July 1. We'll include a tiny easel for you to display your work at home. Commemorate Juneteenth

The City of Stamford will observe African American Emancipation Day at Mill River Park with an afternoon of activities for the whole family. The event, to be held Saturday, June 17 from 12 to 4 p.m., will include displays by area vendors, fun games, good eats, arts & crafts and more. The Ferguson Library will be there too, hosting book giveaways and crafts, and providing information about the library's Passport Services.

Learn how to support social emotional wellness for you and your children, along with available resources in the community. Click here to register.

Calling All Teens: Become a Summer Volunteer

Teens can earn volunteer credit by helping kids and teens sign up for the Summer Learning Clubs, report their reading progress, and assist with special projects and activities. Stop by any branch to submit a required application, which can be found here.

One training session must be completed to volunteer; these will be held June 3 from 2 to 4 p.m., June 5 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., and June 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. All volunteers must be 12 years old or older by June 10.

Book Donation Days at the Harry Bennett Branch

Book donations will again be accepted at the Harry Bennett Branch the first Saturday of every month starting June 3. All are welcome to bring their gently used books to the auditorium from 12 to 3 p.m. Mark your calendars: Future donation days include July 1, September 2, October 7, November 4 and December 2. Donations are welcome any time during library hours at the Main Library Book Shop.

Registration is now open for the Stamford Public Education Foundation Summer Start program for children entering Kindergarten at Stamford Public Schools for the 2023-2024 school year. Summer Start is a free, five-week, half-day program for students who have not had a complete pre-K experience during the 2022-2023 school year. All ages are invited to the Whittingham Discovery Center at Mill River Park this Saturday, May 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for the annual Stamford Early Childhood Fair. Or keep up with the latest award winners, celebrity picks and best new audiobooks. A special section for book groups includes recommended titles and tips for energizing the discussion.

Play Group for Ukrainian Children and their Families

Starting Friday, May 26, the Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut Inc. (CGC), an affiliate of the Community Health Center Inc. (CHCI), will host free weekly play groups from 9:30 to 11 a.m. for Ukrainian families with children younger than 5. These play groups offer families a chance to connect and learn about community resources while their children play together.

Free Screening of the Documentary The Right to Read

Synergy1Holdings, in collaboration with Alliance for Black Achievement and the City of Stamford, will present a free screening of the documentary The Right to Read: The Greatest Civil Right Issue of Our Time, at the Avon Theatre May 15 from 7 to 9 p.m. The film, from executive producer Levar Burton and director Jenny Mackenzie, sheds light on the current illiteracy crisis in America. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion. Tickets are available here.
