Please report lost cards immediately. You are responsible for all materials borrowed on your card. Library cards are not transferable. Only the person whose name appears on the card may use it.

Adults ages 18 and up can apply for and renew library cards online or at any library location. Cards are free for those who live or work in Stamford.
Proof of Residence
You will need to bring one of these documents to get or renew a Ferguson Library Card:
- Driver’s license with current address
- Car registration with current address
- Current receipt with address, i.e. rent, tax, utility bill (no emergency room bills)
- Lease with current address
- State ID with current address (issued by the DMV, no PO Box # as the primary address)
Children can apply for a library card at any library branch. They must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
High school students can apply for a library card at any location with a student I.D.
Thanks to a partnership between the Ferguson Library and Stamford Public Schools, any SPS student can access digital materials without a library card. Learn more about our Linked Libraries program.
Stamford educators can check out materials for their whole classroom with our Teacher Cards.
Stamford businesses and nonprofits can register for a card in the business name that can be shared by up to 5 people. Card is valid for 3 years.
College students attending school in Stamford can register for a one-year card (set to expire on August 31) with full borrowing privileges.
Nannies or au-pairs can register for a one-year card with a current ID and registration form signed by the employer.
Connecticut residents who do not live in Stamford but wish to borrow materials from the Ferguson Library can bring their unexpired, hometown library card and current matching ID to register for a nonresident card. Be advised that nonresident card holders will not have access to Ferguson Library digital materials such as e-books and databases.
If you work in Stamford while living elsewhere, you can qualify for a regular card with proof of full-time employment in Stamford.
Out-of-state residents may purchase a subscription card with full privileges for $100/year (nonrefundable).
Anyone can register for a temporary card with no proof of residency needed. These cards are valid for 3 months and have a checkout limit of 5 books, DVDs or books on CD.
