Commemorate MLK Jr. at the Library
Leading up to Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the library will host special events to honor and celebrate Dr. King. All events are free.
Beginning Saturday, January 13 at 10:30 a.m., the South End Branch will host Family Craft. Participants of all ages will work together to create a scroll depicting Dr. King’s six principles of nonviolence.
Something for Everyone at the Library’s Makerspace
Did you know you can borrow baking equipment, sewing machines, even a ukulele and acoustic guitar from the library? The Ferguson Library’s Makerspace also has a microscope and we’re adding a Cricut machine to our collection for those of you who enjoy DIY projects. You can check out all these items with your Ferguson Library card.
Join The Stamford Kindness Project
Be part of the Stamford Kindness Project, a movement created by the City of Stamford that aims to spread love, positivity and kindness in our community and beyond through considerate and selfless acts. The campaign runs through December 25.
Here are ideas to get started: Stop by any branch of the Ferguson Library to design a thank-you card for your teacher or create and post an encouraging message. Leave a bottle of water for your postal courier. Pay for someone's coffee. Compliment a colleague. Hold open an elevator door. Volunteer. The sky is the limit.
Kids Events for Library's 60th Anniversary Celebration of the March on Washington
Join us for a screening and discussion of the animated film based on the 2008 picture book March On! by Christine King Farris, giving her account of the March and the impact of the "I Have a Dream" speech delivered by her brother, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This family event will be held Saturday, August 19 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the Main Library and Saturday, August 26 from 12 to 2 p.m. at the South End Branch.
New Books in Turkish for Kids
The Youth Services department would like to recognize Defne and Berna of the Merih family for their generous donation of books for children in Turkish! More than 200 new titles have been added to the Juvenile World Languages Collection at the Main Library so stop in and find your next great read.

Connecticut Summer at the Museum 2023: Free Admission for Kids
It’s time to explore! Starting now through September 4, Connecticut children ages 18 and younger, with one accompanying state resident adult, can visit participating museums free of charge through the Connecticut Summer at the Museum (CSM) program. Tiny Art Show a Huge Success!
Our thanks to all the artists who participated in the library's Tiny Art Show. Thanks to you, the show was a huge success! But all good things must come to an end. It's time to collect the masterpieces you created that have been on display to the public. Come see us at the location where you participated and pick up your family's paintings from June 15 to July 1. We'll include a tiny easel for you to display your work at home. Thanks for making it a great show!
June is African American Music Month
Summer is here and the time is right for dancing! Since June is African American Music Month, we are celebrating with great music. Stop by and check out CDs, find books about famous musicians, and stream music from Hoopla, or find live performances on Medici.tv, all free with your library card.
Social Emotional Wellness Workshop
Learn how to support social emotional wellness for you and your children, along with available resources in the community. Click here to register.
The workshop, which will open with a light dinner, will be held Wednesday, June 14, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Government Center.
Children's Book Week Book Giveaway
Calling all kids and teens in grades pre-K to 8! Celebrate Children's Book Week with free books. Drop by any of our branches at these times and get two books for your home library, while supplies last.
The giveaway is presented in partnership with the City of Stamford, Reading is Fundamental, Stamford Public Education Foundation and Stamford Public Schools.
Linked Libraries is Back
Horizons Program Admissions Nights at the Ferguson Library
Horizons at New Canaan Country School (NCCS) will be hosting admission nights Tuesday, January 24 from 4 to 6 p.m., and Wednesday, February 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lower Level Makerspace of the Ferguson Library. During the admissions evenings, staff will be on hand to screen for eligibility and to assist families in completing applications which are available online in English, Spanish and Creole.
Parent Leadership Training Institute Accepting Applications
Stamford’s Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) Design Team, in partnership with the Stamford Public Education Foundation (SPEF), will lead an in-depth leadership training class starting January to 20 to 25 selected parents, grandparents, guardians and other adults who wish to advocate for children and improve the lives of families and communities. Candidates will be selected from a pool of diverse applicants. Apply here.
