April is Poetry Month!

Roses are red, violets are blue, now that it's April, we have poetry books for you! 

Celebrate Poetry Month with us at the library. Stop in at any library branch and check out a book of poems about your favorite topic. Kids: You can also try to write your own poem and practice your rhyming words.

Earn Volunteer Hours by Reviewing Books

The Ferguson Library is offering volunteer hours to teens grades 6 to 12 to write book reviews. Reviews will be featured on the library's Youth Instagram page and displayed with reviewed books at the library.

Teens may submit up to two book reviews per week here. For each review approved by a librarian, teens will receive one hour of volunteer credit.

Forums to Address Long-Range Planning for Stamford School Facilities

The City of Stamford, in collaboration with Stamford Public Schools, is developing a master plan to address the current and future needs of Stamford's school campuses and facilities. As part of this process, a series of public forums will be held for community members to hear from experts about this plan. Each meeting will address specific themes; all will provide the same opening presentation and allow time for questions.

A Novel Affair scheduled for April 7

The Ferguson Library will hold its major fundraiser, A Novel Affair, Thursday, April 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. as an in-person event. The library will honor long-time Friends of the Ferguson Library board member Ann Sexton with the Ferguson Award. A Novel Affair is the Ferguson Library’s signature benefit, raising critical funds to help provide library services to the Stamford community. The event will be held at the library. Proof of COVID vaccination is required to attend.

Ferguson joins CT State Library Task Force to help Afghan refugees

Stamford, November 23, 2021 - The Connecticut State Library has formed a Public Library Task Force consisting of libraries in communities receiving Afghan refugees to identify ways that the Connecticut library community can support the organizations welcoming refugees and offer direct services. These libraries are Bridgeport Public Library, Ferguson Library in Stamford, New Haven Free Public Library, Public Library of New London, Phoebe Griffin Knowles Library, Norwalk Public Library, Old Lyme and Russell Library, Middletown.

Ferguson Library to rename Main Library Auditorium after long-time trustee Dudley N. Williams, Jr.

The Ferguson Library Board of Trustees has voted to rename its Main Library Auditorium after the late Dudley N. Williams, Jr. to honor his longtime dedication and service to the library. The official renaming of the Dudley N. Williams, Jr. Auditorium will be celebrated December 12 at 2 p.m. during a reception featuring a performance by a Stamford Symphony quartet. It will be open to the public.

Ferguson Library awarded grant to close digital divide

The Ferguson Library has been awarded a $96,400 Connecticut State Library (CSL) grant underwritten by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The grant will support the creation of the Digital Navigators program, an initiative designed to address existing digital inequity among Stamford constituencies that lack the tools and skills to effectively access resources available through internet.

The Ferguson Library Awarded a National Endowment of the Arts Grant to Support its NEA Big Read Project Focused on Toni Morrison’s Beloved

STAMFORD, July 29, 2021 – The Ferguson Library is pleased to announce it was awarded a $12,000 grant from the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) to participate in the NEA Big Read this October. The grant will support community-wide reading, programming and conversation inspired by the Pulitzer Prize-winning Beloved by Toni Morrison.

Friends of the Ferguson Library to Host an Afternoon with Author Susan Ronald
on Aug. 5 via Zoom

STAMFORD, July 23, 2021 – The prolific historian and biographer Susan Ronald will discuss her newest book, The Ambassador: Joseph P. Kennedy at the Court of St. James's 1938-1940, an exploration into Joseph Kennedy’s brief yet deeply controversial tenure as U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain as Europe hurtled toward World War II. The afternoon presentation will be streamed via Zoom on Aug. 5 at 2 p.m.

Denise Lyles named supervisor of Harry Bennett and Weed Memorial & Hollander branches

STAMFORD, June 24, 2021 – The Ferguson Library is pleased to announce the promotion of Denise K. Lyles to Supervisor of the Harry Bennett and Weed Memorial & Hollander branches. She replaces Erin Shea, who accepted a job as Director of the Mark Twain Library in Redding. In this new role, Lyles will oversee staff at both branches, and will focus on establishing new programs and services to welcome back and reconnect with patrons.
