Long Time Volunteer Makes Generous Gift to the Ferguson Library
Ann Sexton, a long-time member of the Friends of The Ferguson Library and four-time president of the organization, has generously donated funds to update the Board Room at the Main Library. In appreciation of her gift, the room will be renamed the Ann M. Sexton Board Room.
Ann, a long time Stamford resident, has given her enthusiasm and energy to the Library over the past thirty-six years, including running the Friends’ Books for Babies program, which began in 1986 and still provides a book to every baby born in Stamford Hospital.
“When I grew up the library was just a place that had books, wonderful as that was,” Ann said. “Today the library reflects the needs of the community. As a former English teacher and grade school librarian, I see the amazing scope of our library. The Ferguson Library has programs that help Stamford students, new community arrivals, and offers passport service, speakers on a range of subjects, book clubs, children’s programs and so much more. And of course, the Friends Book Shop. To me, a contribution to the library is a contribution to the community.”
The Friends of The Ferguson Library is the library’s volunteer support group. Its members serve as ambassadors for the library in the community and raise funds for the library with a variety of activities, including the award-winning Book Shop, Stamford’s only independent book store.
The Ferguson Library is Stamford’s public library system, consisting of the Main Library, DiMattia Building; the Harry Bennett Branch; the Weed Memorial & Hollander Branch; the South End Branch and a traveling Bookmobile. It provides free and equal access to information, ideas, books and technology to educate, engage and enrich the Stamford community. For more information visit www.fergusonlibrary.org.
