Michele Turk will discuss her book What Makes Him Tic? A Memoir of Parenting a Child with Tourette Syndrome, which describes her leave-no-stone-unturned strategy to learn what her son needed to succeed in a world where Tourette is still the punch line of jokes. She will appear in conversation with Helene Walisever, Ph.D, a licensed clinical psychologist and member of the Tourette Association of America Education Advisory Board.

Michele Turk has worked as a journalist for three decades, covering parenting, health and education. Her articles and essays have appeared in Bloomberg Businessweek, Parents, Parenting, the Hartford Courant, Elle, USA Weekend, The Washington Post, Brain, Child and Next Avenue. She has served as president of the Connecticut Press Club since 2015 and lives with her husband, Russ, in Fairfield County.
Helene Walisever, Ph.D., a licensed clinical psychologist, chairs the New York Hudson Valley Chapter of the Tourette Association of America. She offers counseling, support and education advocacy to families while also presenting workshops to parents, educators and clinicians on how to best support children with tic disorders and associated disorders such as ADHD, OCD, dysgraphia and executive dysfunction. She and several of her children have Tourette Syndrome and other learning differences.
