Dale Napolin Bratter will discuss her memoir, In Their Presence: Untold Stories of Women and Children During the AIDS Epidemic.
Here Bratter chronicles the stories of marginalized African American women and children she met in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as a new social worker. During this period, Bratter found herself caught up in the turbulence created by the virus, a disease that was cloaked in secrecy and fraught with stigma, misinformation, misogyny and the overwhelming public fear of AIDS.
