Two-time NBA All-Star Allan Houston, author of The Fundamentals of Life: Life in 3D, and Barry Woods, author of Reasons Why Youth Don't Give a Damn Anymore!, will discuss their books on how to raise resilient kids who care about themselves, their futures and their communities.

Allan Houston, Olympic gold medalist and two-time NBA All-Star, is the founder of the Allan Houston Legacy Foundation, a multi-dimensional community service organization, whose activities include managing the FISLL Project. FISLL is a multimedia social impact and life-coaching brand that seeks to promote faith, integrity, sacrifice, leadership and legacy as values that help people live, perform and lead better. Through interactive and engaging content, events and experiences known as The FISLL Project, they work with adults and youth leaders to create authentic and trusting relationships between them and the young people they support. Their goal for young people centers on exploring F.I.S.L.L. to develop and strengthen their resilience through proactive strategies that promote positive development. They offer leader-facing tools that foster dialogue and direct service to young people through mentoring, project based learning, social emotional learning, group-based programs and assistance to school-based and community-based programs.
A New Jersey native, Barry Woods made his way to Connecticut by way of athletics. He attended Southern Connecticut State University, where he was a member of the 1996-1997 men's basketball Elite Eight championship team. He earned his bachelor's degree and master's in humans services from Walden University. He is the winner of the 2013 Passion Award, 2019 Maytag Dependable Leadership Award, and 2020 Community Leadership Award from the Stamford Boys & Girls Club. He comes from a winning culture with a dynamic leadership background and relationship-building is his forte. Having experienced his own challenges as a troubled youth, he understands the need for different outlets and the importance of positive adult role models in the lives of young people. He resides in Connecticut with his wife Patricia and children.
