United Way Seeks Applicants for the Heart of Gold Scholarship
The Roberta K. Eichler Heart of Gold Scholarship, named after the longstanding executive director of the Stamford Volunteer Center of United Way of Western Connecticut, is currently accepting applications for its $5,000 scholarship, awarded annually to support and promote the continuing education of an outstanding student volunteer from the Stamford community. Applications and application guidelines can be found here. All application materials are due March 22.

Annual Stamford Literary Competition Now Open
The Stamford Literary Competition, which celebrates excellence in student writing, is now open to students who live or attend school in Stamford, and are in grades 3 to 12. Entries in original fiction, nonfiction and poetry are welcome. All entries must be submitted by February 10.

Weekend Events to Celebrate MLK Jr.
In a lead-up to Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a number of area organizations will host special events to commemorate the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. All events are free unless otherwise noted.
Community Conversation: Stamford Youth Mental Health Alliance
The newly launched Stamford Youth Mental Health Alliance (SYMHA), a coalition of more than two dozen Stamford civic, faith-based and non-profit organizations, hosted a panel discussion about the mental health challenges young people often face and the support they need to achieve wellness. This event, co-sponsored by the Bank of America, was held at the Ferguson Library in November. You can view the discussion here, on the library's YouTube channel.
Warm for the Winter Drive
To support families and help them stay warm this winter, the Ferguson Library is currently collecting new and clean, gently-used gloves, mittens, scarves and hats for children of all ages and adults. You can help us by dropping off your donations at any branch of the library. Donations will be distributed to our neighbors through Person to Person and will be accepted until Friday, January 6.

Hoopla, the digital media service offered by the Ferguson Library that allows users to borrow movies, music, audiobooks, e-books, comics and TV shows, relaunched its Bonus Borrows program for the month of November.

Looking to get a learner's permit or driver's license? The Ferguson Library's Driving Tests resource will help you ace the Connecticut DMV exams by offering all the materials you'll need, including the official state driver's manual and a series of step-by-step DMV practice tests that will help you learn the road rules and pass the test like a pro.
Get Library Carded
September is National Library Card Sign-up Month, a celebration that stresses the importance of obtaining a library card as a child's most important school supply. It's also a perfect time for you to get your own card, join the Ferguson Library community and learn about all it has to offer this month and beyond.
New Perk for Library Card Holders: Free Online Tutoring
Ferguson Library card holders can now receive up to five free tutoring sessions per week thanks to tutor.com. You can register for your tutor.com account with Ferguson Library here and begin attending fall student success webinars. Online tutoring hours are held from 3 to 10 p.m. daily.
Teen Book Suggestions
Looking for your next book? You may be in luck. Stamford teens have been writing short book reviews for the library. Come to the Teen Room on the Lower Level of the Main Library and look for the table full of books with a review stuffed in each. You might just walk away with your next great read or a suggestion for a sibling or friend.
