FEMA Disaster Recovery Center Now Open at the Harry Bennett Branch

To help speed the recovery for Stamford residents who experienced losses as a result of Hurricane Ida, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has opened a Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) at the Harry Bennett Branch.

Representatives from FEMA and the U.S. Small Business Administration will be available at the DRC to help residents apply for disaster assistance, explain disaster assistance programs, answer questions about FEMA letters and the appeals process, and provide literature about repairs and rebuilding to make homes more disaster resistant.

In addition to visiting the DRC, residents can apply online here or by calling 800 621-3362.

Prior to registration, applicants for disaster assistance should have the following: a Social Security number; address of the damaged property; insurance coverage information; current contact information; and bank account and routing numbers for direct deposit of funds.

FEMA plans to operate the DRC until December 29, or as demand warrants. Residents are encouraged to visit as soon as possible, as FEMA may adjust the operating schedule if there is insufficient activity.
