Friends of the Library

Advocates, Volunteers, and Champions of Community Enrichment

The Friends of Ferguson Library is a non-profit, volunteer organization established in 1979. The Friends advocate for the library in the community and generously support programming and collections through membership fees, donations and revenue raised through their award-winning book shops.

Summer reading, book discussions, film programs and cultural events are a few of the many library programs supported by Friends’ funding. The Friends’ Book for Babies program supplies a free first book to every baby born at Stamford Hospital.

The Friends sponsor various special events such as a popular Author Series, an annual Literary Competition for Stamford students and a Mini-Golf family event.

Ferguson Friends Against Racism

In June 2020, the Friends board signed on to join the “Call to Action” issued by the group Stamford Stands Against Racism (SSAR). The Friends formed a board-level committee to assist in dismantling systemic racism in our community -- Ferguson Friends Against Racism (FFAR).  This commitment means that Friends’ programs align with the Ferguson Library’s goals to impact the diverse community that we serve, including the most vulnerable and marginalized. The Friends are committed to taking action to ensure we are an anti -racist, diverse, inclusive and equitable organization; and that our by-laws, policies and practices reflect this.
