STAMFORD, September 30, 2014 – The Ferguson Library Board of Trustees has appointed Alice Knapp as President of The Ferguson Library. Ms. Knapp, formerly Director of User Services at The Ferguson, had been serving as Interim President since the death of long time Ferguson Library President Erne DiMattia in June.
“The Board felt without question that Alice was the right person for the job,” said Ferguson Library Board of Trustees Chair Ernest N. Abate. “She is a dynamic leader with a compelling vision of how to move the Ferguson forward. Her wealth of experience both at the Ferguson and other libraries is invaluable, and we are delighted to welcome her as Ferguson Library President.” Prior to joining the Ferguson Library in January, 2013 as Director of User Services, Ms. Knapp spent four years as Executive Director of the New Canaan Library.
Prior to that she served eight years as Director of Public Services at The Ferguson. She has also been Director of the Bethel Public Library in Connecticut, and Director of both the Canastota Public Library and Frank J. Basloe Library in New York. In addition to her library responsibilities, Ms. Knapp has held a number of leadership roles in professional library organizations, and has served as past president of the Connecticut Library Association, the Western Connecticut Library Council, Fairfield Library Administrators Group and the Partnership of Connecticut Libraries. She was named one of Library Journal’s Movers and Shakers in 2003.
